Introducing La Stella: A Modern Star Quilt Pattern by Quiltd Studios

New Pattern Release: La Stella Quilt Pattern

I'm so excited to announce the release of La Stella, a new star-inspired quilt pattern designed to elevate your space with contemporary quilting.

This pattern combines classic shapes with a fresh, modern twist, making it a perfect addition to any quilting collection.

And the best part? It's totally beginner friendly! Seriously, a lot of other Quiltd Studios' quilt patterns are geared for advanced beginner/intermediate quilters.. but it was time for something bold yet approachable for quilters of ALL abilities.

Here's everything you need to know to get started on this timeless, versatile quilt project.

Fabric Choice: Crafting Your Star

Choosing the right fabric is key to making La Stella shine. This pattern lends itself beautifully to various fabric combinations—think contrasting colors, tonal variations, or even a scrappy look.

You can pick up the EXACT fabrics that I used from the Rainier collection by requesting it from your local quilt store that carries Moda! It's currently still open for orders so tell them to hurry and snag it before the window closes.

While the center star is a striking focal point, there’s room to get creative with surrounding fabrics, using them to play with light and depth across the quilt top.

For those inspired by softer color palettes, neutrals like creams, soft grays, and subtle blushes make the star pattern feel delicate and airy.

Bold, saturated colors, on the other hand, bring an energetic modern edge to the design, making each quilted star pop. The versatility of the La Stella quilt pattern truly allows you to make it your own.

Jessica Rose’s Fabric Choices: Behind the Scenes

When designing La Stella, I pulled inspiration from my first fabric collection - Rainier. I chose deep blues, warm golds, and creamy whites.

My aim was to blend these earthy, classic hues with a hint of modernity, nodding to both the storied past and fresh, contemporary design.

I love using darker fabrics to contrast with lighter fabrics, I know that it can be scary to use dark fabrics, but it's the perfect way to make your quilts feel fresh, modern and unique.

Quilting the La Stella Pattern: Words of Inspiration

The quilting community on Instagram has been a source of inspiration throughout my entire quilting journey and I wanted something special for La Stella.

I asked for everyone favorite inspiring words or phrases, gathered them all together and created a template to quilt them into the quilt. It was a fantastic learning experience and it turned out beautifully. You can see the template that I used.

I used a projector, matched the blocks to the guidelines and traced the words onto the pattern. The most difficult part was finding something that would work on the dark fabric, chalk pens tended to run out too quickly. Definitely a learning experience!

The quilting is my favorite part of this particular quilt, and the best part? Everyone has a little piece of it!

Other ways to quilt might include: straight-line quilting to enhance the star’s sharp edges or trying hand-stitching to add a unique touch to each section, or adding lots of diagonal lines to enhance the center star.

Final Touches: Bringing La Stella to Life

Once you’ve chosen your fabric and started on your La Stella pattern, remember to be careful with the bias cuts and to starch and iron your fabric prior to beginning.
